Abstract / Excerpt:

Undergraduate thesis of Kresna Janis S. Austria, Jason H. Badilla, Bryan Kim, Christian E. Banguilod, Kristofer Ned A. Cabrera, Mae Belle S. Cadayona, and Kristin Ehdelyn Joy A. Morgradez; entitled "Lunar Changes and Crime rates in all police precincts in Davao City". The main objective of the study is to find a correlation between the lunar phases and the incidence of crime particularly in the Davao City Police Precincts. Related literature and studies were gathered to support this study. Theories and varied researchers that pertain to the same matter were obtained to establish factual data for the study. The study is descriptive co-relational. The researchers aimed to find relationship between the lunar phases and the incidence of crime. Take note that correlation does not equal causation. Three problem were then identified: 1) what is the profile of the respondents in terms of gender?; 2) how are violent behaviors of person associated with the lunar phases? Can the incidence of crime be associated to the lunar phases?; can the commission of the crime of male and female be associated to lunar phases?. Based on the statistical tool that was used, which is Eta Square, it was found out that lunar phases have significant relationship to number of crimes committed in Davao City. Based on the previous data crimes usually occur during full moon. The effect of lunar phases to male and female behavior to commit crime cannot be established that is caused by lunar phases. Based on the analysis there is no interaction effect between lunar phases and sex as far as commission of crime is concerned. It means that the pattern of the mission of crime between male and female with respect to phases of the moon cannot be established. This result indicates that male or female criminal will attack in any phases of moon.
