Level of Knowledge and Self-Care Practices of Lumads on disease Prevention

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study "Level of Knowledge and Self-Care Practices of Lumads on disease Prevention" was a non-experimental descriptive type of research that determined the relationship in the level of knowledge and self-care practices of Lumads in disease prevention. It was also conducted to and out if there is a significant difference between the profile of the respondents and their level of knowledge and self-care practices.Multiple statistical treatments were used in order to answer the problems proposed in the study. These include the Frequency and Percentage Distribution, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Mean Formula, Pearson Product Moment Correlation/ Coeficient or Pearson's R, and t-test with 0.05 as level of significance. Out of the 103 population of the Lumad in the Purok 4 Brgy. Tamayong, only 69 of them were included in the inclusion criteria of the study and the complete enumeration technique was used in the researcher's sampling technique. Moreover, a self- made survey questionnaire was used as a tool for the data gathering. SPSS l7 was used to analyze the data gathered. The result showed that according to their demographic profile respondents revealed that the majority of the ages of the 69 respondents range from 19 t0 30 years old with a mean age of 25. Majority were male which corresponds to 55.1%. Majority of the respondents were able to reach Elementary Level which corresponds to 53.6%. The dominant culture of the respondents was Bagobo which corresponds to 65.3. The level of knowledge of Lumads on disease prevention and their level of Self - Care practices was good. The test of difference revealed that there is no significant difference in the level of knowledge when grouped according to Age, Sex and Educational Attainment with the mean of 2.94, however, There is a signi?cant difference in the level of knowledge when group according to Ethnicity. The test of difference revealed that there is no significant difference in the level of knowledge on disease prevention when group according to profile. The test of relationship showed that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and self-care practices of Lumads on disease prevention. The researchers recommend improved information dissemination campaign and continuous health related programs on how to have good self-care practices in disease prevention in the part of the government agencies, health care professionals, educational institutions and student nurses to further improve the knowledge and self-care practices of Lumads in disease prevention to properly manage and maintain a community free from diseases.
