Level of Knowledge and Application of Prescriptive Theory in the Emergency Unit

Abstract / Excerpt:

The research is a descriptive correlational and comparative research which attempts to confirm or validate whether there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of application of Wiedenbach's prescriptive theory of the fourth year student nurses in the Ateneo de Davao University. Purposive sampling was done since only three sections, namely 4A, 4B, and 4D were the only ones in the current fourth year student nurses to have already underwent their exposures to the emergency unit. The three sections were given a survey questionnaire to answer in order to gauge their level of knowledge and application of Wiedenbach's prescriptive theory. After the data gathering, the researchers then used the Statistical Program for the Social Sciences to easily make sense of the data gathered. The data then underwent testing using one-tailed independent t-test and Pearson's r. Then after all the data analysis, the researchers obtained a result which showed a p-value of 0.669 at a significance level of 0.01, This positive result indicates a strong direct relationship between knowledge and application. It shows that as the level of knowledge increases so does chance that the knowledge of the prescriptive theory will be applied by the fourth year student nurses would better aids them in their administration of care to their patients with often varying health care needs within the hospital's emergency unit. With this data in mind, the researchers recommend to any who will pursue this topic to increase the number of respondents in order to come up with more accurate results.
