Abstract / Excerpt:
This study aimed to find the significant relationship and difference between knowledge and practice of ethical principles among 3rd year student nurses of Ateneo de Davao University. The research used a descriptive comparative correlation research design method; in which the researchers examine relationship between factors or variables. The sampling technique used in this study was the exhaustive sampling technique. This study was anchored on the theory of Adaptation by S. Callistra Roy (1976). It theory refers to positively responding to environmental changes. The respondents of the study involved the 3rd year student nurses of Ateneo de Davao University A and B. Exhaustive sampling technique was used in other to come up with a sample size. The self-made questionnaires were used as a form to collect data In order to quantify the data obtained, the researchers perused the SPSS. After the conduction of the research study, computation, and analysis on the signifcant relationship and difference between knowledge and practice ethical principles among 3rd year student nurses of Ateneo de Davao University, the result of the data showed that there is no significant relationship and significant difference. With these results, the researchers recommend that knowledge of Ethical Principles is essential in the field of nursing. In nursing, it is not only the psychomotor skills that are supposed to be mastered but also the affective and cognitive skills. These are skills that a nurse must possess to gain an effective and therapeutic relationship. Moreover, this is acquired by a person through experience or education. Ethical Principles should be strongly enforced in the public and private hospitals as the same as in colleges as a part of their curriculum. It was found out that student nurses who are knowledgeable in the different Ethical Principles have good attitude towards their patient in rendering care. Lastly, to the future researchers, that this may aid in the making of a more comprehensive study that could contribute to the betterment of the knowledge and practice of students nurses.
