Abstract / Excerpt:

This study, "Knowledge and Attitude of Diabetic Outpatients in Southern Philippines Medical Center" is a non-experimental comparative descriptive type of research that assessed the level of knowledge and level of attitude of diabetic outpatients in the diabetes clinic of the outpatient department of the Southern Philippines Medial Center It was also conducted to find out if there is a significant difference between the profile of the respondents and their level of knowledge and level of attitude. There were a total of 66 respondents selected through accidental or convenience sampling and were given questionnaires to assess their level of knowledge and level of attitude regarding diabetes. Results were analyzed using mean, modal percentage, Pearson R, ANOVA and t-test with 0.05 as the level of significance. The findings of the study showed that there is a highly significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of attitude of the respondents. The results also revealed that there is no significant difference between the level of knowledge and level of attitude of diabetic out-patients when grouped according to age, monthly income, educational attainment and tribe. However, there is a highly significant difference between the level of knowledge and level of attitude when grouped according to gender. Thus, the researchers recommend an improved information dissemination campaign and persistent health teachings in the part of the government agencies, health care professional, educational institutions and student nurses to further improve and upgrade the knowledge and attitude of patients and out-patients alike regarding diabetes in order to properly manage and combat the said disease.
