Abstract: This study assessed the effect of Jifsaw model of Cooperative learning Strategy in teaching problem solving in Mathematics Grade IV. Subjects were two hundred eighty-one (281) grade four pupils of Pikit Central Elementary School. Pre-test on National Diagnostic Test (NDT) was conducted last July 5, 2002 and the result was very low. The expected Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of tests results by Department of Education is 75% performance level but the school pupils' MPS is only 31.85 level of performance. Intervention was conducted. An in-service training was conducted on the utilization of Jigwas in teaching problem solving enhance the teaching capabilities of Grade IV teachers. During the implementation period, teachers were observed to monitor the progress of the learning abilities of the pupils. On February 4, 2003 postest on the eight item tests were taken from the NDT test booklet identified as least learned skills of the pupils was conducted. The MPS of the post test was 68.3%. The result revealed that there is a great improvement on the pupils' problem solving abilities and academic achievement of Grade Four pupils.
