Integration process of peace education in Notre Dame of Dadiangas University

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study intended to describe the integration process of peace education in Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU) and find out how it infused peace concepts and issues in the academic environment. A descriptive method of research examined documents from the peace center, self survey report of NDDU and NSTP office, oral interviews, survey questionnaire, focus group discussion and content analysis. Student's knowledge, skills and attitude on most issues of peace education appears high; but, faculty members faced difficulty teaching peace education. Most peace education issues cited on the Framework for Peace Education in the Philippines by Toh and Cawagas are integrated in RE subjects, PGS and NSTP programs, except the issue of militarixation. NDDU has to embark on efforts to revitalize the school's peace education center for it to pursue a clear-cut policy in dealing with activities and initiatives geared toward promoting and strengthening NDDU's peace education programs.
