Abstract / Excerpt:
: Lack of clean water, food preparation, and poor hygiene habits contribute significantly to child ailments that cause Filipino children and people to miss from school and work. In the country, diarrhea is the 3rd leading cause of child illness and the 4th leading cause of deaths among children less than 5 years. It is estimated to cause 12% or almost 10,000 deaths a year. The focus of the study is to determine the relationship between health practices and the incidence of diarrhea among individuals residing in San Nicolas, Matina Aplaya 75-A. Davao City. The researchers used descriptive correlational and comparative method. This would help in designing a program for health promotion. Multiply statistical treatments were used in order to answer the problems proposed in the study. These include the Likert scale, Descriptive Mean and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. The researchers disseminated questionnaires to 115 respondents. Among the respondents, the majority are females and are of legal age. Most of the respondents were sentient to health practices and what harm erroneous health practices can do to their health. The correlation of health practices and the incidence of diarrhea yielded a correlation coefficient which signified significant relationship. There were significant relationship on the health practices and incidence of diarrhea observed. The researchers recommended more precise information dissemination on how prevention in diarrheal diseases can be done. Since diarrhea is mainly due to unsafe water and on the manner on how we prepare our food, proper health practices should be promoted to uphold the safety and well-being of each family thus leading to health promotion. If these conditions are created, people in the community will establish healthy life towards their selves and towards others.
