“Gugmang gi-atay”: A Portrait of De Facto women in Davao City

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study "Gugmang gi-stsy!": A portrait of de facto women in Davao City, focuses on the experiences of women as they go through a de facto separated life. His study serves as a venue where they can voice out their concerns and grievances about their situation. Utilizing the in-depth interview method, the respondents shared their understanding of de facto separation. This research also explored the experiences of de facto separated women in Davao City. Several mixed responses were drawn from the chosen respondents, ranging from bad to good ones. The research presented the reality behind the respondents' experiences in their marriage, separation, struggles and how they have coped and lived with the aftermath. Moreover, the study gathered crucial facts that supported how a woman can become empowered despite the ill-effects of de facto separation on them. Furthermore, it also presented how a patriarchal society contributed further to the problem. Awareness means of attaining legal support, support groups and financial stability are some implications gathered to remedy the problems facing de facto separated women.
