Abstract / Excerpt:

This study attempts to examine the applicability of the grower system as engaged in banana operations to asparagus production for Japan market, to evaluate the market demand locally and in Japan to provide an insight on the current and future demand and supply aspects of the industry and to formulate strategy for profitable asparagus production for establishing socially desirable business venture in the export of fresh asparagus to Japan. The researcher used the combination of historical and descriptive method os research. Analysis shows that Japan is the right export market for the Philippines asparagus. The price of Philippines asparagus can be very competitive in the export market with comparable or better quality. Both export and domestic markets show deficit in supply, hence, the project is viable.
