Abstract: The study was done to determine the effect of games and puzzles on the academic performance in Mathematics IV for the school year 2002-2003 at Basak Elementary School. Specifically, the study aimed to seek answer to question; Is the use of games and puzzles effective in enhancing pupils' achievement? The use of games and puzzles significantly enhanced the achievement of grade four pupils in Mathematics. The findings of this study showed the difference. The pretest was significantly lower than the post-test. This finding led to the conclusion that games and puzzles as activities in Mathematics was effective. Based on the result of the study, the following recommendations are presented: 1. The teachers' skills in using games and puzzles must be enhanced. 2. Games and puzzles be integrated in different subject areas to reinforce the development of different skills of the pupils.
