Abstract / Excerpt:
This study is aimed to discuss the emerging term in the media on the word food pornography under the definition of Kaplan. This phenomenological study collects the perceptions of selected five netizens in Davao City who are aware of the concept of food pornography. The data were based on one-on-one interviews and focus group discussions. From the data that we, the researchers, have gathered, there were four (4) themes that came up, the following themes that emerged were: enticing people through food pornography, being viral or fad of food pornography in social media, exploiting dishes in food pornography, and differentiating food pornography from food photography. Results showed that among the four (4) themes conceptualized, enticing the people through food pornography as a glamorized picture of food in media emerged as the most evident. Pictures of food are acknowledged by most informants as a stimulator of senses that can have physiological effects such as cravings and hunger. This study can be used in understanding how food porn can greatly affect in the promotion of food businesses, educating people on food and improving the tourism industry.
