Flexitime arrangement of Esperanza District: a baseline study

Abstract / Excerpt:

This paper is concerned with the lived experiences, current practices and perceptions of teachers who are assigned in far flung schools who availed of flexitime arrangements. The first study conducted in the history of Department of Education, Division of Agusan del Sur particularly in Esperanza District. In fact flexible working options provide teachers in response to the increasing concerns of family, distance of home from stations, expenses of travel, and security in order to achieve work-like balance. It might be expected that single flexitime arrangements affords a "degree of choice" to teachers. It would impact positively on job satisfaction. The research reported on this paper was designed to explore how lived experiences of flexible working have influenced their "freedom of choice". The findings show a general strong positive result since flexitime arrangements proved to be helpful considering the far distance of teachers working assignments, to minimize expenses, spend more time with families, lessen tiredness in hiking, to have better teaching performance, to increase time on task, decrease absenteeism and risk in traveling to stations and do the administrative functions ahead of time.
