Abstract / Excerpt:

This content analysis study, which is qualitative in nature, is focused on the analysis and organization of the filmic elements in terms of character, music, and stor in a particular scene of the following films: "Cinema Paradiso, Malena, The Star Maker, and The Legend of 1900. The researchers chose these films since these are multi-awarded and the researchers chose four from the sixteen films that Tornatore have in order to determine consistency and similarities in style. This content analysis was made to analyze, interpret how Giuseppe Tornatore utilized and organized the filmic elements in terms of music, character and story. Another one is to be able to draw out the directing style of Toranatore based on the selected multi-awarded films within the grounds of the analysis form the results of the depth interview and the analysis of the researchers on character, music and story. With this, the researchers were able to analyse the filmic elements based on specific elements as well as the directing style or pattern of Tornatore in making films. The researchers made the study starting from the selection of scenes for specific filming elements- character and music. As for the filmic element story, the researchers viewed the films as a whole. The researchers gathered qualified interviewees and interviewed them to gather more information as well as verify their own interpretation. After which, the researchers created a conclusion out of the data they have gathered. In conclusion, the researchers found out that Giuseppe Tornatore as a director he makes use of certain characters and things as a way for his audience to be acquainted with the story and other characters in the story. He presents the filmic elements in a way that it resembles his beliefs and traditions of the Italian culture, aural, and visual symbolism, montage and flashback effects which in overall accounts to to the factors that makes his works multi-awarded masterpieces.
