Abstract / Excerpt:
Objectives: This study aims to determine the demographic profile of the reporters; determine the level of knowledge of the reporters on gender neutral language; the attitude of the reporters toward gender neutral language; the common writing practice of the writers in relation to using sexist language.
Methodology: The study adapted the descriptive research method.
Conclusions: It was found out that the attitude of the respondents is greatly dependent on their level of knowledge on sexist language. All these factors significantly affect the writers in using sexist language. Sexist terms have been used in the print industry for many generations and it is only recently that campaigns against sexism sprouted. This makes the process of uprooting the use of sexist language a difficult one.
