Abstract / Excerpt:

This study focused on determining the factors that affect teacher performance as perceived by teachers of Marie Vithaya School. Specifically, it sought to determine the socio-demographic profile of the teachers in Marie Vithaya School, Nakhonratchasima, Thailand, in terms of age, sex educational qualification and length of service; factors perceived to influence performance; and the suggestions of teachers to improve teacher performance. The results of the research revealed that the teachers of Marie Vithaya School are mostly female, are between the ages 30-40 years, with Bachelor's Degree and have worked with the school for more than 5 years. The teachers strongly agree that success in the duty of working, satisfaction in the way they work at present and being assigned special work from the supervisor in line with their knowledge and capabilities are factors that highly affect work performance. On the other hand, acknowledgement and respect, style of work, progress, supervision of immediate supervisor, relationship between personnel, policies and administration, conditions of working and, appreciation are also considered to moderately affect work performance as indicated by the respondents' "agree" response. The following recommendations are offered: that school administration should establish programs and activities that will sustain its teachers' interest to provide quality education; develop a clear guideline for division of work; conduct an evaluation of the working conditions; continue to develop closer ties with the community stakeholders, especially the parents; conduct trainings and courses in relation to teaching functions; equipment must also be provided and/or upgraded to match the skills acquired; and conduct consultation between school administrators and teachers on a regular basis.
