Experiential learning in teaching Science IV / Noel C. Edombingo

Abstract: The study was conducted to find the significant difference of Experiential Learning in teaching Science IV. It attempted to answer the research problem: Is Experiential Learning significantly increased the pupils' performance in Science IV? The result of the National Diagnostic Test, which was conducted on July 2002 to 36 Grade IV pupils of Damawato Elementary School. It is a single class and group heterogeneously. They were all selected as sample for the purpose of this study. The result revealed that the pupils got a very low academic performance in science. The School-Based In-Service Training on Experiential Learning was conducted to enhance the teacher's strategy in teaching. Experiential Learning was conducted to enhance the teacher's strategy in teaching. Experiential Learning was the intervention to the identified least learned competency in science in third grading period. The study analyzed the data gathered in pretest and posttest using the t-test for correlated sample with the level of significance of 0.05. The finding of the study revealed that Experiential Learning enhanced the learning of the pupils and obtained a significant increased in the pupil's academic performance in Science IV. Based on the result of the study, it was concluded that Experiential Learning is effective method in teaching Science IV. The researcher recommends that Experiential Learning will be employed in teaching Science IV. It is further recommended that similar study will be conducted not only in Science but also to other subjects.
