Evaluation of the economics program of Ateneo de Davao University

Abstract / Excerpt:

Findings: (1) The Social Science and Education division has formulated eight specific objectives for the economics program, although it hopes to come up with more measurable ones for more sufficient program evaluation; (2) There are currently seven full-time and three part time economics teachers in the program; (3) All economics teachers have commendable academic qualification being graduates of Ateneo. Five of them have finished graduate studies, one is currently a third year law student, and another one is completing a master's degree in economics under the faculty development program. The other teachers who have yet to complete higher studies profess to have define plans along this line. Four of those who have completed their graduate studies plan to pursue post graduate education when opportunity permits; (4) In terms of professional qualifications, economics teachers have, at one time or another worked in private corporations, non-government and peoples' organizations, research and other educational institutions occupying administrative, managerial and teaching positions; (5) Two full time teachers have been in the teaching profession for 14 and 10 years, all spent in Ateneo. One full time teacher has spent 2 of her 16 teaching years outside of Ateneo while the new resident teachers have been teaching for two years at the most; (6) All teachers seem to enjoy their chosen vocation and have specially chosen Ateneo because of their strong faith in the Jesuit education; (7) Economics graduates of Ateneo are generally considered 'good' by these teachers given the fact of the graduates widely dispersed natures of employment. In the case of undergraduates, the same 'good' rating was given.
