Effectiveness of economics 1 module for college students / Arthur M. Pascua

Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract: The study investigated the effectiveness of the economics 1 module for college students. It was administered to two match-paired block sections of first year evening classes in the college department of the Holy Cross of Davao College during the first half of the second semester of school year 2002-2003. Specifically, the following null hypothesis had been investigated. 1.) There is no significant difference in the pretest scores of the students exposed to modular instruction and those students using the lecture-discussion method. 2) There is no significant difference between the mean gain scores of the students exposed to modular instruction and those students using the lecture-discussion method. Statistical findings using Z-test and Sandler's A-statistics showed that null hypothesis number one was accepted while null hypothesis number two was rejected. The instrument used in the study was a seventy-eight item multiple-choice type of questionnaire. These findings led to the conclusion, that teaching economics to college students using a modular instruction was effective. It is therefore recommended that the module be adapted in the college and similar studies be conducted covering other topics in economics.
