Abstract / Excerpt:

The study aims to determine the correlation between the rule of law and human development using a cross-section data of 99 countries included in the 2014 Rule of Law Index (RLI) formulated by the World Justice Project and the Human Development Index (HDI) of the United Nations Development Program 2014 Human Development Report. It is aimed also established the correlation between the basic components of RLI - CGPI, ACI, OGI, PRFI, OSI, REI, CIVJI and CRIMJI - with the HDI. Results show that all the variables are positively correlated with the HDI, affirming the idea that the existence of rule of law is good for human development and vice versa. On the basis of the findings, the study recommends that efforts directed at enhancing the rule of law and the areas that support the rule of law should be pursued and undertaken.
