Abstract / Excerpt:
Dual Citizenship refers to people having nationality in two different countries. Although the law on dual citizenship enumerates a number of benefits, dual citizens still face numerous reintegration challenges. Thus, it is important to highlight the experiences on reintegration of dual citizen college students because they are the ones who are most immersed in the differences among the three types of environment such as family, school, and community. Furthermore, as college students face the entry of their adulthood, they are vulnerable to the changes in their environment. Aside from that, critics and studies about dual citizenship do not emphasize the implications of the reintegration experiences to dual citizens, and such studies do not include the impact of the family and the community to them. Those issues provide justification for the conduct of this study. This study has 30 respondents. This study is mainly descriptive in character and uses a qualitative approach which generated verbal information. Findings show that there are two factors that contribute to the positive and negative reintegration experiences of dual citizen college students in Davao City: external factors such as the treatment of the family, school and community as well as the internal factors such as the acceptance of the different situations and the varying coping mechanism they have. This study recommends further studies using the probability method of sampling and the quantitative approach of study for further analysis. The families of the dual citizens are encouraged to be considerate. The schools are encouraged to develop special English and Filipino classes for their enrolled dual citizen students, provide a journey partner for them and ensure mechanisms to address the problem of bullying through the drafting of protection mechanism against it. This study also advises dual citizens to be understanding towards their new environment.
