Abstract / Excerpt:
Objectives: (1) know the attitudes of Matigsalugs towards their ancestral domain; (2) identify the problems they encountered in dealing with their Ancestral Domain during the struggle and after the struggle; (3) determine t he strategies used by the Matigsalug ribe in the process of claiming the Ancestral Domain; (4) determine the Matigsalug Community's perception of Ancestral Domain in terms of a) nature of Government and Non-government Organization's support and b) adequacy of Government and Non-government Organization's support.
Methodology: The study made use of the descriptive type of research.
Findings: Matigsalugs perceived that their land is an essential part of their life. This Ancestral Domain was inherited from their ancestors; it can neither be sold nor destroyed and taken away from them. Thus, they have the right to acquire and own the land. They experienced difficulties in adopting weather conditions when they were trapped in the forest. After the struggle, many NGO's entered into the community trying to manipulate the minds of the natives. Rebellion and deliberation of the tribes were also used as strategies during their struggle. During rebellion, they used weapons such as arms, bows and arrows, spears and traps. The funds provided by the government and NGO's were intended for development and livelihood programs of the Matigsalug community. The support that was given to the community by the Government and Non-government Organizations was insufficient.
