Critical thinking teaching strategies and students’ academic performance.

Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract : The basic concern of this study is to determine the effectiveness of critical thinking teaching strategies on the academic performance of the students taking up college algebra during the first quarter of the first semester of the year 2002-2003 at Cor Jesu College, Digos City. This study uses te quasi-experimental design which is the nonequivalent pretest-postest control group design employing the purposive sampling technique. Since there is a significant difference in the academic performance between the group of students exposed to critical thinking teaching strategies and those exposed to traditional approach, this implies that the students in the experimental group who used the critical thinking strategies as instructional system for teaching college algebra performed better than those who were not.
