Cow dispersal project: a feasibility study in Barangay Igpit

Abstract / Excerpt:

Project Summary: The project encompasses one module, which is fattening a calf. The calf will be tended until it reaches a certain marketable size and weight. The fattened calf will later be sold to the local public market and to the neighboring towns. In this project, the yearling bull to be dispensed will be bought out of the funds that will be loaned from the Land Bank of the Philippines. Such loan is payable upon sale of the fattened calf, however failure to pay this loan on due date will result to a penalty of 3% of the outstanding balance. The fattened cattle and other protein rich animals have a wide market: the local consumers, traders, shippers in the area, ranches, and other cooperatives and farmers which are based in the strategic areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Younger animals are cheaper because of lesser weight but they require longer period of feeding and the higher feed quality to reach the desired result. On other hand, stock aging from four years or more need less time in the feedlot and will eat a wider variety of feed and roughage.
