COPAR strategies: key to participation by the community

Abstract / Excerpt:

This research study is designed to prove the hypothetical relationship between the demographic status of the community, employed COPAR strategies and the level of participation gained. Our research locale is at Sitio Sta. Cruz, Binugao, Toril, Davao City. The area has a 3.5 km range, measured from the base of the highway to the dead end road located at the top. Using the Slovin's formula, to gather 228 respondents. The area has different pockets of residents; the south having more residents than that of the north; thus a convenient random sampling was used. We developed two sets of questionnaire: the first one gauge the level of participation by the community, the other one is towards the strategies used. The actual data gathering started a week after the Barangay Captain was informed and the questionnaires' were distributed among the populace. The age ranges were from 15-65 years old, and there were more females than males that activity answered the given questionnaires. The tallying started a week after all data has been sorted out, and the results were then transcribed via computer software that automatically produces the correlation result. The active participation was gauged using the statistical tool and their demographic correlation was gauged by using the statistical treatment Pearson-r co-efficient. Our data shows that there is a significant correlation with the variables educational attainment of strategies used to garnering active community participation.
