Abstract / Excerpt:

Community organizing is every's dream in order to develop the oppressed and the most exploited sectors of the society into a self-reliant communities. This study came into reality when Davao Doctors College (DCC) started to develop Barangay Langub on October 1999. Objectives of this study are as follows: to find out the demographic profile of the respondents, to document the experience of Davao Doctors College in organizing the barangay, and to identify hindering and contributory factors in the implementation of the Community Organizing Participatory Action Research (COPAR). With the use of interview checklist as an instrument, data was gathered by the community research team and members of the community organizers. Result of this study can be used by other agencies, government and non-government organizations as basis for project implementations. Findings of this study reveal that there were 250 respondents who participated in this 3-year study of Barangay Langub. Experiences was documented from the pre-entry phase, entry phase, research phase, community action phase, capability building phase, to the sustenance phase of the COPAR strategy. In the whole process, it was observed that CO is best achieved if it involves people participation. People have adopted the theory that the improvement of their community is at their hands. No amount of money can equate their creativity of utilizing local resources. Although the study is relatively successful, there are still hindering factors that were identified but there were out numbered by the contributory factors encountered. Recommendations were given to Davao Doctors College, NGO/GO, Clinical instructors, students, and Community workers for the improvement of the future community organizations.
