Causal attribution for environmental problems, environmental paradigm and their correlates

Abstract / Excerpt:

How do people from the barangay identified by local government as the most affected by environmental predicaments and the most problematic in the implementation of pro environmental projects, think about environmental problems? A survey (n=196) of households in the barangay investigated respondents' causal attributions for environmental problems, environmental paradigm and their correlates. Results showed that most of the respondents are aware of the existence of environmental problems and they think that humans and their actions are the main causes of these. However, they also believed that these environmental problems emanate from outside themselves and are unstable but within their control. On the New Environmental Paradigm, the mean score of the respondents' results indicates ambivalence, although slightly tipping towards a pro-environmental worldview. Gender and educational attainment are associated with causal attributions for environmental problems and NEP results.
