Abstract / Excerpt:

This study aimed to determine the view of fourth year student nurses of the Ateneo de Davao University on caring as the epistemological foundation of nursing, and whether if age, family background, and section affects their view of care.
METHODOLOGY: This chapter presents the research design, research locale, , subject of the study, sampling technique, research instrument, research procedure, and statistical treatment of the data.
CONCLUSION: Based on the results, the perspective of caring as the epistemological foundation of nursing did not vary among the respondents classified according to gender, age, and family background. Both male and female fourth year nursing students, on the same range, viewed caring positively even though the latter are known to be more tender, loving, and caring than the previous. Age, in this study, did not imply that the older the fourth year nursing students the better they view caring. The statistical treatment showed no significant difference in the perspective of caring between the students with at least one nurse in their families and those without a nurse in their families. The latter even got a higher mean although the two categories belong to the same range which describes that they partially agreed to the notion that caring is the epistemological foundation of nursing. However, as illustrated in this study, view of caring varied among the fourteen sections. Therefore, in terms of gender, age, and family background, the researchers accepted the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference in the perspective of caring as the epistemological foundation of nursing among the respondents and rejected it in terms of section.
