An investigative study on the kilowatt-hour meter on residential loads

Abstract / Excerpt:

ABSTRACT: The technical research was conducted in order to investigate on the reading of the power measured by the single-phase kilowatt-hour meter on the residential electrical equipment. From the results, it appears promising that there is a difference in the reading of the kilowatt-hour meter compared with the single-phase wattmeter. The study also inspect on the types of residential loads. From the results, the electrical equipment consist of resistive and reactive loads. Moreover, whether the loads are resistive and reactive, there is still a difference on the readings done using the kilowatt-hour meter as the measuring instrument. The discrepancy on the reading of the single-phase wattmeter and single-phase kilowatt-hour meter would have to do with the meter itself and the switching of loads. There is a sudden increase on the rotation of the spindle of the kilowatt-hour meter when the loads were switch on.
