Abstract / Excerpt:
The study is an assessment of the current security systems and procedures at the Davao International Airport (DIA) in Sasa, Davao City. It surveyed on the current capability of the DIA in terms of cargo traffic, passenger traffics and number of security personnel; the socio-demographic profile of PNP-ASG personnel tasked to provide security at DIA and airline passengers; the level of satisfaction of the respondents towards the DIA security systems in terms of competence of security personnel, security system and quality of service; and the attitude of respondents towards the security systems at the DIA. The study also looked into the significant relationships between the level of satisfaction of respondents and their socio-demographic characteristics. Findings reveal that both passengers and PNP-ASG personnel are generally satisfied with the present DIA security system setup and have a positive attitude toward the current DIA security systems. Findings also show that there is a significant relationship between level of satisfaction and attitude towards DIA security system among PNP personnel as well as among airline passengers. Furthermore, data indicate that there is significant correlation between airline passengers' frequency of travel and their attitude towards DIA security system. However, airline passengers believe that additional acquisition of sophisticated equipment, manpower, K-9 dogs and regular refresher trainings for PP-ASG personnel are still needed. Vigilance at all times is needed to thwart any terrorist attempts. Additional security guards should also be regularly posted along the perimeter of the airport. Stricter screening of non-passengers going inside the DIA terminal building should always be implemented.
