American traffic policy towards the Philippines, 1898-1946

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: This dissertation is to share to the people the historical analysis of the role of Congress of the United States i handling tariff legislation for the Philippines. It covers the story of customs tariff under the military government (August 20, 1898 - March 8, 1902), The acts of March 8, 1902 (March 8, 1902 - August 5, 1909), Attempts to revise the Philippine Tariff laws during 1905-1908, Development of Policy, The approach to Independence.

Conclusion: In building up of new and well-balanced national economy for the Philippines there must be required of the leaders of the country a high order of statesmanhip. He also added that it will take years before Philippine economy can be restored to its pre-war position.
