Academic achievement and the intellective and non-intellective factors

Abstract / Excerpt:

ABSTRACT: A total of seventy-two (72) students from Philippine Science High School were gathered as respondents. Descriptive, correlational and comparative methods were employed to establish the relationship and the significant difference between the specified variables in relation to academic achievement. In comparison to previous studies, no significant relationship can be established between academic achievement and the intellective factor, students' attitude, and their interest. However, a weak to very weak correlation can be established between academic achievement and the students' sex/gender (sig. value of 0.017) and age (sig. value of 0.001). According to Jacobsen (2004), boys and girls perform well on the measures of academic success although this happens in different stages of their adolescent life. As children became older they become keen to gain new skills and understanding of self-improvement. There is no significant difference in the Science and Non-Science grades of the student with Superior and Average IQ; while the Non-Science grades of the students with an IQ of above Average are significantly higher than in the Science subjects.
