A study of foreign tourists’ perception on Davao City’s tourism facilities

Abstract / Excerpt:

Objectives: To determine: (1) the background characteristics of selected foreign tourists; (2) the tourists' knowledge on tourist attractions in Davao City; (3) respondents' perception on Davao City; (4) respondents' perceived comparison of Davao City with other cities; (5) whether the respondents have plans of spending another vacation in Davao City.
Methodology: The study adopted a descriptive research design.
Summary of Findings: One-fourth incurred an average annual income of 10,000-30,000. More than one-third of the respondents claimed that they came to Davao City for vacation and pleasure and visited Davao City for the first time (56%). Most of the respondents source of information (40%) came from friends and relatives and one-third of the respondents, who had knowledge about Davao City. Eight of the respondents, who had knowledge, knew of the world class golf courses in Davao City. Slightly more than half of the respondents believed that transportation was available to tourists and eighty percent found its rates as not expensive. The services of the domestic airlines were efficient according to 28 respondents. Most of our respondents were able to dine in the various restaurants of Davao City and almost half of them ate at Shakey's. The variety of cuisines were asked to the respondents and twenty-six of them said that Chinese cuisine is offered and sixteen replied that Mexican food was not available in any of the restaurants in Davao City. More than half of the respondents had already enjoyed the atmosphere of Davao City's beach resorts. Most of them went to Paradise Island. Twenty-six respondents were able to avail of the recreational facilities offered by the management of the beach resorts and sixteen of the respondents said that there were adequate recreational facilities and its rate were not expensive, according to 18 respondents. Fifty percent of the respondents were attracted to these beach resorts because of its cleanliness and good food. Fifty-two percent stated that Davao City had better infrastructure and sixty-eight percent classified Davao City as rural compared to their current place of residence. To compare it with other cities tourist attractions, sixteen respondents stated that Davao's attractions were better. Eighty percent of the respondents were having plans of spending another vacation here in Davao City because of the excellent services and reasonable prices one encounters.
