Abstract / Excerpt:
Objectives: This study on profile of orchid industry will provide data for understanding what really orchid industry is. The information gathered also will provide data for buyers and sellers as well as can provide government agencies such as DTI on how to further assist orchid growers, thereby promoting growth of the industry.
Methodology: The sampling procedure used was non-probability. Descriptive statistics was employed in analyzing numerical data. Mean, range, frequency, and percentage were utilized.
Conclusions: a) that the usual type of ownership in which many of the respondents claimed was single proprietorship. Majority of the respondents have started their orchid business at most 2 years ago and having seminars as one of the major sources of knowledge in dealing with orchid propagation. b) the use of nets got the highest percentage rather than using ropes, poles and other materials with the average cost amounted to P 1,875 which is so far high compared to woods and cement. c) That big majority of the respondents made used of their own capital to finance their orchid business while others preferred to get loans from either private. d) Among the many varieties of orchid plants/flowers dendrobium was the most saleable. Individuals were the best customers in the orchid flowers same as the cooperatives.
