Abstract: This study involved five hundred fifteen students of the Ateneo de Davao University enrolled in English II from s.y 2000-2001 and 2001-2002. The study revealed that both English II Departmental Examinations differed not only in the number of items testing specific grammatical structures but also in the number of class sessions allotted for each grammatical structure; had more than 77% of test items testing subject-verb agreement, tenses, and tag questions; had less than 13% of the total test items rejected, 27% revised, and more than 60% retained; and revealed very high reliability coefficients. It is recommended that all English 11 Departmental examinations should continue to be content validated and item analyzed; tables of specification should be created; the FYCF team should gather ample materials for English 11 remediation and enhancement; and validated test items should gathered to form a pool for the creation of a standardized English 11 examination. Corollary to this is the creation of standardized entrance examinations for incoming college freshmen and graduate students of the Language program. Similar researches should be conducted for the English summer bridging program and english 13.
