A baseline study of differently-abled person in Davao City

Abstract / Excerpt:

Summary: The majority of the respondents revealed their problems and difficulties that they encountered such as problems of employment because its hard for them to find job, difficulties in riding vehicle, and going up to the building and has no elevators use of the differently-abled persons. And also lack of implementation of the law. Furthermore, differently-abled persons also encountered different forms of discrimination, like courting the girl, they are tease by other people through their physical appearance and some people judge their ability and their capability of doing something. There are some respondents need to develop their personal aspects such as to develop self-confidence, their attitudes towards handling difficult problems and to enhance their skills, talents and abilities in order to improve their self. Most of them suffered financial problem because of their condition. They cannot provide to support their everyday needs. There should be enough assistance and services in order to improve and develop personally, soundly and spiritually and to uplift their lives. Many of them have no job and permanent source of income because of no opportunities for them to work. The researchers found out that the accessibility law or the right of differently-abled person was not fully implemented. This study serves as instruments to come with possible solutions that had been raised by the disabled person and to improve their way of living, to develop their skills and ability. And also to helped them in terms of physical, emotional and spiritual aspects.
