Vaselife preservation studies in roses (Rosa sp.)

Annotation

Data show that among cut rose cultivars, Bravo, Ma. Callas, Camelot and Kordes perfecta had longer lasting flowers while preservatives SHQS + CA + Sucrose best extended vaselife of cut flowers aside from prolonging the duration of flower opening, promoting fullest petal expansion, extending the days to wilting and maintenance of petal color and freshness of foliage. No single quantitative character is directly responsible for longer vaselife of roses. To attain longer vaselife, a cutivar should have flowers which opens slowly and have stronger stem relative to the weight of its flower head.
