In Region XII, comprising Central Mindanao, communicable diseases including tuberculosis (TB) ranks next only to "violence and accidents" as a major cause of death. Lanao del Sur is reputed to have the largest instance of tuberculosis cases in the entire Philippines. This presents the traditional medical practices of Maranaos, the use of herbal medicines to complement medical check up on the management of TB cases.
