This article discusses the unique custom of the Maranaos of trapping birds for amusement in a manner similar to cock fighting. Kendas, the brown shrike they trap, compete with each other for scarce food. This custom also involves musical amusement with meaningful songs that suggest the cultural value of bravery. Seven popular examples of trapping songs were included in this article.
