The paper is divided in three parts: (1) Social organization: the indigenous structure and political system, (2) Social conflict in an Asian setting, (3) Marawi City: From Agama to urban community. It discusses the socio-political structure and relationships in Maranao society. Slow development in the area could be attributed to the conflict of authority between the traditional and the modern leaders.
