This manuscript produced by the DECS Region IX, attempts to equip the elementary and secondary teachers, students and pupils with genuine resource materials on the local heroes of Western Mindanao. Divided into four parts, Part I presents the heroes of the Spanish period with emphasis on the Spanish invasion of Region IX especially Jolo, Sulu. Part II portrays the Muslim - Christian cooperation against the American colonizers. Part III tackles the period during the Spanish period and Part IV tackles about the contemporary leaders of Western Mindanao.
