This study is largely based on an examination of records of the Sulu Star, a non-religious paper devoted to Sulu community service and founded by the Oblate fathers of Sulu. It attempts to trace its beginnings to its editorial policies, actual operations, and problems. Along with this, the questions on how the Catholic-owned Star reports the trouble in Lanao and Cotabato is examined. The research findings show that those who are more aware of the Mindanao conflict are those who have been more exposed to mass media but are more reluctant to discuss the Lanao-Cotabato problems. Recommends that Star should penetrate the different sectors in the Sulu society and should share certain aspects of culture and a sense of history with the Tausugs.
