The emergence of a multi-ethnic Maguindanao Sultanate

Annotation

To the Dutch, the English and the Spaniards, the Sultan of Maguindanao was known as the "King of Mindanao" early in the seventeenth century. The Maguindanao traditionally occupied the Pulangi river valley and the root word "danao" means inundation by sea, river or lake. It explains that Maguindanao denotes kindred settled in the country about the lake".
