The Datus of Rio Grande de Cotabato under the colonial rule.

Annotation

In Cotabato, the datus used their client connection with the colonial authorities to legalize traditional land rights making their followers as tenants and making themselves as landlords. With this, they are able to take advantage in the development of commercial agriculture. In the same way, having the first option of position in local government, they are able to reconstitute their traditional authority. Finally, this paper is an investigation of the historical account through some first hand acquaintances with the Maguindanaos and their oral traditions.
