A survey on the severity of diseases among bromeliad plants is conducted at Valencia, Bukidnon, Davao City and Kabacan, Cotabato. The laboratory is set-up at the University of Southern Mindanao Agricultural Research Center (USMARC) while the screenhouse evaluation to identify the causal organisms and their pathogenicity is done at Purok Miracle, Kabacan, Cotabato from September 1998 to March 1999. Curvularia lunata (Wak.) Boedj is isolated from Mary Hyde and Red Scarf varieties that show leaf spotting. Is significantly controlled by Ridomil, Maneb, Tranzeb, Rover and Captan. Good mycelial proliferation is observed in V-5, rice sucrose agar, potato sucrose agar and corn sucrose agar. Meanwhile, high conidial count is observed in rice sucrose agar. Fire ball and Mary Hyde show comparable disease severity after inoculation with the pathogen.
