Socioeconomics of carabao raising in some selected provinces in Northern Mindanao

Annotation

Three hundred sixty carabao raisers are surveyed to assess the socioeconomic aspects of raising Philippine carabao in Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, and Misamis Occidental. Most respondents are forty-seven years old, have finished five years of formal schooling, and have twenty-one years of experience in carabao raising. Ninety-four percent of the respondents have crop farming as their main occupation. Management practices are broadly classified into feeding, breeding, health management and general management and varied very slightly in the province. Ethnic origin and type of crops raised have significant effects on the adoption of recommended management practices. A low level technology dissemination is also observed.
