Screening of pre-emergence herbicides against weeds of dry seeded rice

Annotation

This study aims to determine which among the herbicides are most effective against weeds with at least phytotoxicity to dry seeded rice. Predominant weed species associated with dry seeded rice (DSR) are Echinochloa colona, Echinochloa glabrescens and Ischacmum rugosum. Application of oxadiazon at the rate of 0.5 kg a.i/ha (two liters Ron star) provided the best weed control and better crop safety. Spot hand weeding is still needed to further reduce the weed population into a tolerable level.
