Post-resource and ecological assessment monitoring and training project in Panguil Bay

Annotation

This work is a "sequel" to the resource and ecological assessment of Panguil Bay conducted in 1991. Like the previous assessment, this project also determines the demographic and socio-economic profile of the coastal communities along the Bay. It also assesses the fish stock in the Bay (finfish, crustacean and mollusk resources) evaluates the ecology and habitat of the marine organisms (coral reefs and fish sanctuaries, artificial reefs, seaweeds / seagrasses, soft-bottom communities and mangroves) examines the water quality (physico-chemical parameters and nutrients, presence of pesticides and trace elements, sedimentation and coliform counts) and monitors the plankton population in the Bay. Most importantly, the post-resource and ecological assessment validates, updates, and compares the results obtained in the 1991 assessment and determines whether the fishery resources have recovered/dwindled in the light of certain coastal management intervention programs.
