Performance of tiger grass at different spacing

Annotation

Of the tree spacing treatment used, 2x3m spacing exhibits a consistent high percent survival, number of suckers and panicles produced per clump from the first to the sixth year. It is observed that eight months after planting, seventy-seven percent of the total tiger grass planted starts to produce flowers of panicles. Flowering occurs yearly usually from the months of November-April. Peak flowering is during the second month from flower initiation. Seeds of grass mature in about four months from inception of flower emergence. Panicles yield is observed to increase at year 1-3 and decreases annually in year 4-6. Closer spacing have the lowest panicles yield per year while wider spaced clumps produces more panicles per clump.
