With the signing of the Mining Act of 1995 liberalizing the industry, mining is fast becoming a major focus in Mindanao. However, after the lease period, mining companies will depart, leaving the next generation with a barren, dangerous and unproductive land. Mining companies should therefore take some safeguards to ensure the safety and sustainability of their activities. There is a need for equitable development. A development that everyone will contribute and can get its fair share.
